The nine bays that integrate Bahias de Huatulco, including his interesting surroundings, allow a wide range of activities that will keep busy and entertained the tourist. The visitor will be able to experience the emotion of the scuba-diving, the elegance of golf or the romantic cavalcades that have become a tradition.
Spa
At Huatulco's hotels you can find places to spoil your body. Some of these places offer treatments with clay, acquaintances as "baño zapoteco", that is used as exfoliates and moisturizing; likewise, it’s possible to enjoy rich massages with essences and body-oils.
Ecotourism
The ecotourism is an activity that seeks to promote the natural richness, admire their diversity and protect their environment. There are two special places in Huatulco's Bays to realize this noble activity. “The Magic Waterfalls of Copalatilla” on the Rio Copalita, belonging to community of San Miguel at two hours of distance from Huatulco, make a beautiful natural swimming pool where the visitors not only admire the landscape and their flora and fauna, but also they find the possibility to refresh-themselves or practice Tyrolean and rappel, beside the famous coffee farms which are another good attraction.
The National Park “Bahias de Huatulco”, located towards the west of Santa Cruz Bay, has almost 12 thousand hectares where you’ll find 9 thousand species of plants of jungle and more than 1200 species of animals from small rodents up to exotic birds and fearsome reptiles.
Navigation
For the navigation there are two Marinas that serve as reference point for expeditions. The Santa Cruz Marine Dock, in the Santa Cruz Bay, is a wharf with more than 300 meters of length which can receive crafts up to 90 thousand tons. The “Marina Chahue” is a private Marina that offers services to yachts and sailboats.
Especially the Santa Cruz Bay is the point of item towards different bays and beaches that only have access by sea, due to their terrestrial difficulties. A typical tour can take the tourist up to seven bays in one day, or go to different beaches, submarine parks, rocky formations as “Bufadero” and “Cara de Piedra” in the bay of “Organo”, or, take a cruise while the Sunset, more known as "Sunset Cruise".
Cavalcades
Realizing horseback riding between jungle routes, at sea’s shore, or creating trails between any point of the bays it has become into a favorite activity that competes with bicycle and four– wheel motorcycles tours. During the tours, visitors can see directly flora and fauna in their maximum brilliance, for example, crossing the jungle up to the Rio Copalita, where there is no access by car.
There are some bays which principal access is by sea, nevertheless, it’s an adventure that several tourists accept readily, opening their way on horseback rides from a beach to another, without missing the chance to take advantage of these beaches and get a refreshing dive.
Kayak
At Huatulco kayaking is practiced in sea and river (like "rafting"); in the beaches equipment can be rented, kayak for one or two persons and you can go on places and privileged accesses. Placing the Bay of Santa Cruz as the reference point, there are two special places exist for this activity: Playa Ventura, 3 mi from Santa Cruz, located in Tangolunda's Bay, which is a place with quiet waves perfectly proper for the activity; and the beaches Maguey and Organo: two bays practically united, of thin white sand, warm water, with an emerald color and calmed waves that allows admire natural beauties while you take a promenade on kayak. In Rio Copalita, also it’s common to see tourists entertaining themselves crossing the waters of the river rowing on a kayak.
Surf
Surf, windsurf or wave runner; exciting activities that can be practiced in Huatulco's waters, it’s enough to ask in the lobby of any hotel in order to be orientated about beach clubs and agencies where you can rent equipment and have pretty fun.
Both principal beaches that have “push in the wind” and the waves for this activity, are Playa Esperanza, to 0.93 mi from Bay Chahue, which have 361 feet of length, and Beach Cacaluta, to the west of Santa Cruz, where .5 mi of length waits for the adventure.
River descending
In Huatulco there are a couple of routes where you can practice river descending, (rafting) an activity where you board canoes, rafts or kayaks, to be manipulated in the fast waterways. The ideal route for beginners is the La Ceiba to Puente Copalita, where even children and major adults might exercise and have fun. Another route of major risk is located from La Hamaca to La Bocanada, more than 40 km with seven “rapids” class III and one class IV, only for experienced people.
Sports fishing
Playa Conejos, at Conejos Bay, possesses crystalline waters and species allowed for capture; in addition it counts with maritime transport, equipment for rent and expert guides who always will have the best recommendations. Among the favorite species for fishing are: the joker, tuna, golden fish, and the valued species of black, blue and striped marlin.
Due to the good development of this activity, Huatulco's Bay hosts the International Fishing Tournament of Sailfish, which makes this fish one of the most wanted trophies.
Skin-diving
Submarine crags, islands, cliffs, coral reefs and sunken ships are a great treasure that you’ll want to explore. These reasons make that Huatulco's Bays is one of the favorite paradises for scuba diving in the Mexican Ocean.
One of the facilities that offer this tourist destination is that its attractions under the water are relatively accessible, due the most of sites for diving doesn’t exceed 26 feet of depth.
The waters of La Entrega and San Agustin are some of the most famous, in La Entrega there is a submarine park, in San Agustin there is a sunken ship and in both a reef of white coral; Cacaluta and Montosa Islands have coral plates where coexist an enormous variety of exotic and multicolored species which can be appreciated very little depth, among them, the shark cat; some times, beautiful turtles are also seen between the capricious forms that acquire these corals.
Golf
In Bay Tangolunda is found the only Huatulco's golf course, which represents one of its principal attractions due the quality of the facilities and services. The field is 18 holes couple 72, being the whole number 13 the one that offers the most spectacular panoramic view of the beach. Tangolunda's Golf Club counts with clubhouse, restaurant bar, shop, swimming-pool, baths and dressing rooms, three lakes, four professional tennis courtyards and bleachers for 300 spectators, without absent typical of electrical carts providing better comfort. The golf course was designed by the Mexican architects Mario Schjetnan and Pedro Guereca.
Mountain biking
There are three routes for take an exercising bike ride: the urban tour is to know the village of Crucecita and Santa Cruz, where you have to see the Church of Virgen de Guadalupe, the market of crafts and other important points inside the localities; the scenic tour that includes more than 15 places with bays views; and the ecological tour that crosses the coffee grower estates, for which is needed an excellent physical resistance. Being in trails that surround the jungle vegetation or paved roads, adventure will be special. Some of these paths and trails are covered in four-wheel motorcycles.
Rappel
Rappel and rock climbing are extreme sports that require good physical condition, professional equipment and knowledge of the activity, but in addition, friendship and proof of teamwork, which is essential to climb the cliffs of beauty landscapes you will remember forever in the memory.
The Punta Celeste of the Botazoo Park has a natural wall of stone of almost 147 feet of height and 100º of inclination, is located next to the Rio Copalita, less than 6 mi from Huatulco.
The Magic Waterfalls of Copalita, to 40 mi from Huatulco, are a real challenge due to the fact that has 164 feet of elevation and 95º of inclination; in addition to the difficulty of humidity that makes slippery the vertical road.
“Piedra de Moros”, a stone near to the community of the same name, is a very interesting giant sphere: It’s an ancient lava bubble that in ancient times fell into the sea, and due effect of water was crystallized; long time later, stayed outdoors. Although isn’t advisable for climbing, you can assent to enjoy the beautiful view that provides.
Tyrolean
Near to Tangolunda’s Bay is practiced one of the most exciting activities: crossing from a hill to another one being thrown by steel cables, until arrive to Rancho Tangolunda. The safety of the equipment is excellent; there are distances of 984 feet of tour for adults and of 164 feet for children and teenagers, in order for enjoying the activity too.
